Meet the Team: Katie

Why did you decide to join the rad-ish?

I’ve always spent quite a bit of time writing on the side, but I thought it would be fun to finally write for an audience. My friends are the best audience I could ask for, so I’m really looking forward to keeping in touch with them this way. Also, Abbey had this brilliant idea to start a blog, and was kind enough to invite me to write for it!

Tell us about some things you think are rad.

Writing letters in blue ink, cheering for the Golden Bears, sipping craft beer, braiding hair, petting Golden Retrievers, studying in empty libraries, baking brownies for my friends, and reading poetry on rainy days. Applying to medical school isn’t so rad, but I’m doing that too.

What are you most excited to write about and feature in your posts?

I was born and raised in Southern California, but most of my exploration of the area consists of a survey of the various softball diamonds and soccer fields that I played on. I can tell you all about the crappy grass on my high school soccer field or about every soft spot on the softball diamonds close to my house, but I can’t tell you where to find the best tacos on Tuesdays or my favorite place to go for a beer and some live music on a Friday night. I’m hoping to use this opportunity as a fresh lens through which to view what has been sitting in front of me for much of my life.

What is your secret talent?

I don’t know if it’s a secret, but my powers of procrastination really are something to behold. I don’t miss deadlines, but I am weirdly good at knowing how long something will take me to finish, and leaving myself exactly that much time to finish it (re: all college essays ever). I try avoiding using this talent very often anymore…it’s just too darn stressful! But I suppose it’s a cool trick to have sitting in my back pocket.

How about something you’re bad at?

I’m a terrible singer. The only time I sing is when I’m in the car by myself, stuck in traffic. Which seems to be an increasing amount of time lately…yay for commuting!

How messy is your room right now?

Ask me tomorrow, after I’ve had time to clean it.

Please do a line drawing of yourself for us!
